Living with Cerebral Palsy 🍋🍋

About

Thanks for visiting! My name is Ruth and I'm a 36 year old Mummy to the beautiful Miss Elin, to whom this blog is dedicated. Along with Elin's Daddy we live in a little stone cottage in the Welsh countryside with a coal fire and lots of rain!
Elin was born in July 2008. We were pretty excited, it had taken a long time for me to conceive and Elin was the product of gruelling IVF. Whilst I had a textbook pregnancy, unfortunately that's where our luck ran out. Elin lost oxygen throughout my (mammoth) labour, leaving her in a very poor state at birth. She needed immediate resuscitation and spent the next four weeks fighting for her life on the Special Care Baby Unit.
As she grew stronger it became apparent that the lack of oxygen she had suffered had left her with severe brain damage, or as we quickly became used to calling it Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy. I started this blog a few months after her birth because I needed an outlet for all my thoughts and feelings in what should have been the best time of my life but in reality became quite literally the worst.
This blog soon became and remains a source of massive comfort and support to me and I thank anyone for visiting it and taking time to read about our miracle girl. I always aim to focus on the positives of raising Elin and we are definitely a 'glass half full' family, hence the blog title. After all, when life gives you lemons, there is really only one thing you can do......
